Toronto Beaches Basement Bathroom

(Pre-Renovation)

This small pocket bathroom in the basement of this Toronto Beaches home got a major facelift from its old and dingy look, which was barely still holding itself together in more then area within the bathroom.

Featured within a small bungalow, this bathroom represented one of two bathrooms in the home, and the main bathroom being used for the basement bedroom.  Previously renovated years prior as part of a DIY project, the bathroom had barely done the job for this family.  Leaks from floors above had severly damaged the drywall in multiple areas, and the shower floor had been leaking.  Upon commencing the demoliton, the shower pan had experienced so much leaking that the entire perimeter of the wood framing was so rotten it had turned black and could be removed only by using a finger.

A new one piece PVC shower pan was installed to make sure this never happened again - bright white for a vibrant and fresh looking floor, this pan will never experience leaking issues again.  To open up the room and make it feel less cramped, the existing drywalled enclosure was removed, and instead a glass enclosure was installed in place.  In doing so, light now penetrates the entire room eliminating the dark and moldy feeling of what used to be.

With the concrete slab being extremely out of level, floor leveler was applied over the concrete before laying the flooring down to create a nice flat surface to walk on.  Luxury veneer waterproof tile was chosen as a budget friendly and beautiful upgraded option.

Drywall fixes and new paint were applied throughout the bathroom to fix up all wall and ceiling surfaces, an a new toilet was installed as well.

In what is a small fixture, but massive upgrade to this bathroom was adding this small 16" sink in between the shower and toilet.  Although small, this sink is a major upgrade to the room, making it technically a full 3 piece bathroom and allowing a user to wash their hands or face in what otherwise would have been only possible by using the faucet in the shower.
