Popcorn ceiling removal is anything but a clean process, but when a ceiling is in as bad of shape as this one was its well worth the cost to fix it up.  With the main floor of this house already in a partially demoed state, the homeowner had already tried to DIY their way to a clean ceiling by doing their own mud work to fix damages.

Unfortunately this ceiling was in such a rough state that a 1/2' difference between some surface levels could be observed in various portions of the ceiling in the kitchen.  With the popcorn ceiling in the living room already being painted over, this meant it couldn't simply be scraped off.  As a result, skim coats of mud were needed to be applied and sanded over the entire section of living room.  Given the amount of mudding needed to be properly applied between both sections of the main floor, This put the job far out of reach of any DIY homeowner to be able to execute professionally.

Before starting any work, dust containment barriers were installed across both stairways leading to the upstairs and downstairs portions of the house.  Temporary floor protection and drop sheets were also laid over the furniture on the main floor to keep things as clean as possible during the work.  The lathe and plaster crown molding around the ceiling of the living room was chipped off, along with the existing curtain bulkheads protruding down in front of the windows of the living room prior to the mudding stage beginning.

Following the completion of the mudding, 1 layer of primer was applied across the ceiling of the entire main floor, followed by 2 coats of flat white ceiling paint to bring this ceiling back to a proper standard.
